Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
  • Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
  • Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
  • Draw, construct, and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.
  • Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.
  • Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population.
  • Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations.

Class Policies

  • Absences - If a student has a known, upcoming absence, it is their responsibility to complete any assignments ahead of time.  Upcoming assignments are posted on the weekly board and on Google Classroom. For unplanned absences, students are responsible for missed classwork and homework, which is posted on Google Classroom

  • Tardiness - Tardies are recorded if students are not in their seat, with their supplies, ready to work when the bell rings. The first two times a student fails to be ready for class will result in a warning.  The third time will result in a recorded tardy for the hour. If students are more than 10 minutes late, it will be recorded as an unexcused absence.

  • Late Work - Late assignments may be turned in up to 5 class days after the date assigned for full credit. Work turned in after that time will not be accepted.

School Policies

  • Phones - Cellphones are not to be seen, heard, or used in the classroom.  In order to leave the room, you will have to leave your phone, if you have it, in the designated holder.

    • 1st offense = warning

    • 2nd offense = phone turned into the office

  • ChromeBooks - When directed, you will be able to use your Chromebook to access the E-book, E-tools and approved math apps.  No access to social media or video sites is allowed at any time in the classroom.

    • 1st offense = warning

    • 2nd offense = Chromebook turned into the office

  • Academic Integrity – Each student is expected to abide by the ACCHS Student Handbook.  Any work submitted for academic credit will be the student's own work. Students are encouraged to study together and to discuss information and concepts. Students can give or receive "consulting" help from one another.  However, this permissible cooperation should never involve one student having possession of a copy of all or part of work done by someone else.  Should copying occur, any and all students involved will automatically receive a zero for the assignment. Copying directly from the Homework Help website, with no original work or request for assistance, will also be considered a violation of this policy.  Penalty for violations of this code may include disciplinary action. During individual examinations, students must do their own work. Talking or discussion is not permitted during individual examinations.
