Welcome to 2019-20 – United States History

Students will explore the history of our country, focusing on events from 1877 (the end of Reconstruction) until modern day.  Through the examination of trends, movements, and major figures from the past 150 years, students will gain a greater understanding of the political trends, cultural movements, and forces that shape our nation.

Students will...

  • Analyze the impact of immigration, industrialization, and urbanization on the political, cultural, and economic development of the United States in the end of the 19th century.
  • Describe evolving global issues that led to limited expansion by America and eventual involvement in World War I.
  • Compare and contrast conditions during the Roaring 20s and the Great Depression.
  • Examine events that brought the United States into World War II and the Cold War that emerged after the war.
  • Analyze the Civil Rights movement of the mid-20th century and the impact on society at large.
  • Evaluate modern issues of the late 20th and early 21st century including changing foreign policy and reaction to terrorism.
