05/11/2012 - HEALTH NOTICE. Elementary school parents are being notified that we have several confirmed cases of “Fifth Disease.” This is a virus that includes mild cold symptoms (stuffy nose, runny nose, slight fever) followed by a bright red rash. The facial rash is followed by a lacy; flat rash that appears on the arms, legs, trunk and buttocks. This rash may itch and may last for several days.
It is difficult to avoid exposure to the illness, because Fifth Disease is most contagious 7 to 14 days BEFORE its characteristic rash appears. Since Fifth Disease is a mild illness, no specific medical treatment generally is necessary. We do recommend that you notify your physician and follow his/her instructions in the event your child has these symptoms.
Currently this is isolated to the elementary school. If you have any questions, please call our school 913-833-4420.
Mrs. Brookover, Principal
