01/03/2012 - Preschool Classes Cancelled Until Monday.

On Monday, a small patch of mold was discovered on the ceiling of Mrs. Wilmoth's preschool classroom. As a precautionary measure, we are closing down the preschool building while we have an outside agency run mold and air quality tests.

Starting Monday, and until further notice, all preschool classes will be held at the new Central Office on 306 Main Street, Effingham, KS.

10/21/2011 - NaNoWriMo: A number of high school students have been meeting over the past several weeks to gear up for this year's NaNoWriMo challenge to write 50,000 words in the month of November. NaNoWriMo (which stands for National Novel Writing Month) is a nonprofit group organized to motivate would-be novel writers nationwide to devote one month of the year to composing 50,000 words, an average length for a novel. Students have been meeting to construct plots, discuss characters, brainstorm ideas, and share first drafts before the November 1st start date, when they will begin logging their word counts each day. 10/20/2011 - The Delaware Valley League Cross Country meet was held at Rim Rock Farms near Lawrence, the course of the 3A State Meet. The Atchison County Cross Country team featured 3 medalists in the races. Trevor Myers finished in 7th place and Hannah Corpstein finished 8th. Both runners were selected (based on their finishes) for 1st team All-League status. Lillie Holtgrave was the top runner selected for 2nd team All-League, finishing in 11th place. Austen Miller ran his final league race, just missing a medal in 21st place. The tigers compete at Regionals on Saturday, October 22nd. This will be the final Regional competition for seniors Hannah Corpstein and Austen Miller.


10/18/2011 - The Atchison County Community Junior High Girls' Basketball team had their season opener last night, 10/17/11, at home against Pleasant Ridge. The A-team won 34-14. High scorer was Madison Martin with 12 points, Jentry Scherer added 10, Lucy Kearney 7 and Mallory Eckert 5. The B-team won 19-14. Karsan Schmidt was high scorer with 8 points, Savanna Cohorst scored 6, Bailey Buttron 3, and Trisha Fassnacht 2. The C-team lost 2-6. Madison Bissell was the lone scorer for the Lady Tigers C-team.

10/17/2011 - The High School Student Council would like to thank everyone who participated in the Oct. 4, 2011 Pink Out! Through t-shirt sales, raffle tickets and free-will donations, we raised $700 to donate toward breast cancer research. Donations were equally divided between the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.


10/11/2011 - On Saturday the ACCHS Varsity Volleyball Team put away the competition to win the Atchison High School Volleyball Invitational.  After winning pool play at the MS, the team moved to Atchison High School where they beat Oskaloosa in the semis and Atchison High in the Championship match. Brooklynn Otte and Tara Ellerman were named on the All-Tournament Team! The Lady Tiger Varsity record now stands at 16-9.

10/11/2011 - The Atchison County Community FFA Livestock Judging Team takes 1st Place at Maryville, MO. The FFA Livestock Judging team traveled to Maryville, MO., on October 4, 2011. Eight team members participated and placed 1st Overall in the team competition. Individual placings were Colby Baker-1st Place, Leah Scholz--15th, Kyle Chew--24th, Chase Montgomery--33rd, Morgan Martin--42nd, Ashley Chalfant--48th, and Colten Banks--159th. There were approximately 300 participants at the contest. The team is coached by Kayla Bodenhausen and sponsored by Dean Swafford.

10/24/2011 - Trevor Myers and Hannah Corpstein Qualify for 3A State Cross Country. For the second consecutive year, ACCHS Junior, Trevor Myers and ACCHS Senior, Hannah Corpstein qualified for Class 3A State Cross Country.   Trevor placed 3rd overall and Hannah placed 9th at Saturday's regional competition held at the Riley County Regional, Leonardvilled Golf Course.    The Boys' Team finished 9th with 209 points. 08/24/2011 - The Atchison County Drama Club announces auditions for the fall musical, "Damn Yankees," which will be performed the first weekend of November. Auditions will be held Monday, Aug. 29 and Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. and during PAWS on Tuesday Aug. 30 in the Auditorium. To audition during PAWS, you will need to sign up with Mrs. Walters or Mrs. Eckert; prioritythat day will be given to athletes who cannont attend an after school audition times. Auditioners will be asked to sing and to join with others in reading selections from the script.  Tech crew will also be needed for the musical. Please speak with Mrs. Walters or Mrs. Eckert if you have questions about the musical or to sign up for tech crew.

ACCJH Girls Basketball Update from Thursday, December 2, 2010. The ‘A’ Team defeated Wathena 33-12 to improve their record to 12-0 on the season. Leading scorers: Lillie Holtgrave 13 points and Rachel Newquist 6 points. The JH varsity girls team will enter DVL Tournament action as the #1 seed and will play on Tuesday, December 07, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at home.

The ‘B’ Team defeated Wathena 35-13, to wrap up their season with an 11-1 overall record. Leading scorers: Charlsey Green 9 points and Lucy Kearney 6 points.

The ‘C’ Team defeated Wathena 22-17 and finished the year with a 6-2 record. Leading scorers: Karsan Schmidt 8 points and Emily Schletzbaum 4 points.

ACCHS MATH CLUB NEWS
On Oct. 27 the math club competed at the Emporia State University math contest. The Algebra team consisting of Riley Hundley, Darren Falk, and Ryan Martin earned a 4th place finish among the 1A-3A schools. Individually, Brooke Fowler, Jenna Thompson and Hannah Corpstein scored in the top half on the Algebra Individual test and Megan Vanderweide and Jacob Sowers who scored in the top half on the Geometry Individual test.


New NHS Members Inducted, Wednesday, October 27, 2010
The ACCHS Chapter of the National Honor Society and sponsor Barb Gigstad inducted fourteen new NHS members in the ACCHS library Wednesday night. Haunted forest fundraiser scheduled for October 23, 30, and 31.

** The Haunted Forest will be cancelled on Friday, Oct. 29th due to the ACCHS Volleyball team success, as we want all to be available to attend the state competition.  Best of luck to the Lady Tigers!!  Saturday, Oct. 30th and Sunday Oct. 31st the Haunted Forest will be open as originally planned from 8 to 11 pm - Coach Wetig and the ACCHS Boy's Basketball team.

The ball will be presented to officials before the start of the big game against the Pleasant Ridge Rams. The team will run in pairs followed by school personnel over the 34 miles of dirt, gravel and paved roads.

09/11/2010 - Varsity Girls Volleyball Win Nemaha Valley Invitational - The 31st Annual Nemaha Valley Invitational Volleyball Tournament was held Saturday, September 11, 2010. The tournament consisted of ten teams: Pleasant Ridge, McLouth, Nemaha Valley, Marysville, ACCHS, B&B, Rock Creek, Horton, Jackson Heights, and Hiawatha. The ten teams divided up into two pools and played the teams into their pool; the top two teams in each pool advanced on to play in the semi-finals and finals.

The ACCHS Volleyball team went undefeated, placing first in their pool and advancing to the championship round where they defeated Baileyville B & B to capture the Championship. (Link to team picture.)

-- Lisa Mead Places Third at Nationals (submitted by Clayton Lucas) - “Lisa Mead was a third-place winner in the short story division for 11th grade. Kansas had the most winners. A total of 61 entries were first, second, or third for $980 to be distributed to students. There were 10 short story entries from all levels. Of all the entries received, she was third. Third at nationals is wonderful. That is quite an honor.”

-- JSH Campus Beautification - The ACCHS chapters of the National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America collaborated on a beautification project to care for the existing landscaping and to add new landscaping around the school sign in the front of the school. They planted shrubs, trimmed bushes, raked dead debris, and spread a great deal of mulch around it all. The campus looks especially nice for graduation on May 16. -- State FFA News - The Atchison County FFA’S Ag Econ team placed 3rd at state Tuesday, may 4th. Team members include; Darren Falk, Rachel Keihl, Katrina Reiss and Jacob Penning. -- Lisa Mead’s DAR Essay 1st in State - It was announced at the March 15th Board meeting, by senior high social studies teacher Clayton Lucas, that Atchison County Community High School junior Lisa Mead has won 1st place for her Daughters of the American Revolution short essay. Lisa’s short essay will be submitted for competition at the national level.

-- Austin Eckert and Ryan Martin Earn Basketball Honors - Atchison County Community High School sophomore Austin Eckert and junior Ryan Martin have been named to the All State Class 3A Honorable Mention lists by the Topeka Capital Journal and the Wichita Eagle.

-- Austin and Ryan were also named to the Big 7 All-league team. Austin has been named the Atchison Globe All Area Player of the Year and Ryan was named Atchison Globe First Team All Area.

-- Michael Forbes Named Globe Wrestler of the Year - Michael Forbes, 140 pound Big 7 League Champion and Class 3A Regional Champion has been named the Atchison Globe 2010 High School Wrestler of the Year.

-- Alex Maxwell Selected as Rotary Student of the Year - Atchison County Community High School senior Alex Maxwell, who was named the 2010 Atchison Rotary Student of the Year, received his award on March 11, at the weekly meeting of the Atchison Rotary Club. We spoke to Governor Parkinson about the importance of counseling in the schools. He talked of the importance of college and career counseling and we pointed out other aspects of the profession. NOTICE - The ACCMS Girls Basketball Game scheduled for November 4th with Atchison has been changed to tomorrow, Tuesday October 28th @ 4:00 PM.

Saturday ~ October 25th High School Sub-State Volleyball Tournament Bracket

PowerSchool will be down October 22nd, 23rd & 24th.  We will be migrating the PowerSchool data to an on-site server on the above mentioned dates. There will be no access to the program by Staff - Teachers - Parents or Students during the migration.

10/02/08 - Middle School Volleyball "A" tournament will be played at the Middle School instead of the High School due to Homecoming activities.

Old Cheerleading Uniforms will be for sale at the Friday, October 3rd, football game starting at 5:30 PM.

09/29/08 - Freshman/Sophomore Football vs. Jeff West here has been cancelled.

Little Pepsters will be Practicing October 1st from 6:00 - 7:00 PM at the High School

09/25/08 - Middle School Football @ Holton change - The games will start 4:00 PM.

09/13/08 -  JV VB Tourney @ MH-MA has been rescheduled to October 18 due to gym flooding.

09/12/2008 - Little Pepsters  rescheduled for Friday, October 3rd Homecoming football game at half-time.
